Kathy Uyên (Kiều/Thúy Kiều)
Kathy Uyên (Nguyễn) was born and raised in San Jose, CA. Since her first 5th grade play, she has had leading roles in films such as Oan Hồn (Spirits), directed by Victor Vũ, Ngũ Vị Hương (Five Spices), directed by Kiên Nguyễn, and Asian Stories (Book III), directed by Ronald Oda. She has been in numerous commercials, most recently Direct TV, K-Swiss, and the NBC/Chevrolet Winter Olympics promo. Aside from acting, she also loves to MC/Host, (Co-Host for VAX TV show), and is currently partnering up to start a production studio, Scopotone Entertainment Inc.
Christopher Đình (Duy)
Born in Little Saigon, Chris spent his childhood on an herb farm near the Temecula Wine Country because he kept getting beat up by the local bullies. His first introduction to theatre happened while he was studying biology at UCLA. After wandering onto the wrong side of campus, he met a theatre professor, Gary Gardner, who talked him into taking his first theatre class. Chris soon found himself performing with LCC (Lapu the Coyote who Cares), a local theatre group, and studying theatre at UCLA and East West Players. He currently resides in LA.
Sarah Nhung Ngọc Hồ (Chủ Tiệm)
As Chủ Tiệm, Sarah brought a sense of authority and tenderness to the role of this complex character who worked her way up the ranks to eventually own the massage parlor she began working in many years ago. Her first role in a feature film, Sarah has extensive experience as an interpreter in the medical, business and media fields both in the US and in Viet Nam.
Yên-Ly (Linda)
Born and raised in Saigon, Yen-Ly is a veteran singer and actor with training in the performing arts, cinematography and radio. Having grown up learning Tryuen Kiều in school , Yen-Ly feels an affinity to the heroine Kiều who, like all the women in the film, had to overcome great adversity. You can catch her singing at community events throughout Northern California.
Mỹ Lài Huỳnh (Fiona)
Mỹ Lài worked very hard to play the devout Buddhist and mother of two in her first acting role. In describing her experience playing Fiona, Mỹ Lài comments that “Fiona and I are very similar because we are both Buddhist, go to temple and are vegetarians‚ I’ve really enjoyed playing Fiona and am honored to be a part of this project.” Mỹ Lài can be seen running marathons throughout the Bay Area.
Ly Nguyễn (Mimi)
In being in the cast of Kiều, Ly reflects, “The process has been amazing. It’s a special experience to see the comraderie between women.” Ly’s writing has been published in various publications and is currently working on her debut novel.
Veanne Cao (Jessica)
Veanne comes to Kiều with an extensive background in the theatre stage and great enthusiasm, "as I've never been involved in such a solid collaboration among so many dynamic women." She is currently pursuing degrees in both Media Studies and Social Justice at the University of San Francisco. Nguyễn Thái Trang-Anh(Thúy Kiều voice-over)
Trang-Anh is honored to be participating in a small part for this historical film project. She appreciates that the film has brought out the voices of many Kieus in the San Francisco Bay Area, in Viet Nam, and throughout the world. She currently works as a social worker at a county hospital. When she's not at work, she also offers her voice for Dong Song That, the Vietnamese LGBT radio program in Northern California, and her assistance with the editorial team of O Moi Zine, the Vietnamese LBT zine headquartered in Southern California.
